New York University
’s investment office has hired Travis Shore, director of hedged strategies at University of Florida Investment Corp., to be director of investments for its $2.8 billion endowment. He is the first senior hire of CIO Tina Surh, who took over the top spot at NYU following the retirement of Maurice Maertens in 2009.

Shore was hired for his track record at Florida and investment insight, said Surh. The office will follow a generalist model, so Shore will have his hand in multiple asset classes, she added. Despite being the Gators’ hedge fund point person, he also was involved in different asset classes at Florida.

Shore was a deputy of CIO Mike Smith, who left Gainesville last year to join Global Endowment Management. He was replaced by Doug Wynkoop, the investment chief at the Houston Municipal Employees Pension.

The Gators have replaced Shore with Rakesh Dahiya, who also assumed the duties of another departed staffer—Julie Baker, who was in charge of equity and fixed-income. Dahiya hails from the investment office of Washington University in St. Louis.

A call to Wynkoop was not returned by press time.
